There is a YHA ("Official") youth hostel near the station and various back packers Rune which would be a lot, lot less...and not very far. And there are plenty of places to eat cheaper - I didn't take any of the food last year. I did have lunch the year before which wasn't too outrageous for a hot meal. £7.50 for someone elses choice of sandwiches is steep...
