réd, you have clearly mastered the accent, the umlaut, and all other special pronunciation marks with your usual adroitness and aplomb. I salute you!

Fëanor and Elendil, it occurred to me that if you came into the chat room via the BD site vs. using mIRC, that might be the problem. This trick might not work in the applet. The best fix in that case is to download mIRC -- it's much better than the applet anyway. Or you could check your browser settings like HI talks about above to make sure they're right (i.e., View menu > Encoding > = Western European (Windows)). I'm out of ideas after that.
