Walk To Rivendell" aka "The Eowyn Challenge"

Just a clarification:Peony's "fever" on Middle-earth related to the ten days of extreme heat and humidity in the first part of July, in the northeastern U.S., when her alter ego could not bear to drag herself outdoors. As Alatariel and Arwen Baggins had caught up with her, but then drew ahead in their mileage... Said alter ego is, however, perfectly healthy! The kind sentiments are appreciated, anyway [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img].

What to do with one's walking miles, after reaching Rivendell? I'm much more likely to keep up with it if there's some sort of goal attached besides the intangibles of better health, lower body fat percentage, etc. (Being naturally inclined, like Dorothy Parker, to respond to an urge to exercise by "lying down until it passes.")

A while back, someone proposed a "walk to Mordor," half facetiously, but perhaps if those of us who have struggled with *cough*weight issues*cough* for a long time arrived at Mt. Doom, we could throw some Thing that represented them into the fiery pit. (Virtually, of course--don't litter the national parks)

Around here, of course, the biggest obstacle to exercise after November is winter. People do not shovel their sidewalks, and the streets are just plain dangerous. Knowing myself, this means investing in a treadmill (then setting it up someplace it will be USED--not the basement, in other words).
