Nah, it was a rope and roller skates. Aragorn was actually towing Gimli through most of the chase, but the highly focused Ranger little noticed the extra weight, so intent was he on following the trail.

(By this time the friendship between Elf and Dwarf had been firmly established, and Legolas was no squealer.)
