Well,
If Elrond got his way then Éowin had died by the hands of the Witch King and where would be no one that was going for the Hobbit's when talking to the Mouth of Sauron. But on the other hand. Than Gandalf would not have died in the Mine's of Moria. But then again, Orthanc would not been destroyed by the Ent's either. Greetings, Anuion
