And Osse looked westward and proclaimed; "Yonder lies Los Angeles, land of the golden sun, land of the burning lung!" And lo! a great shadow appeared to rise out of the east, and born upon the shadow, many stars gleamed like mithril. The shadow-light surged acroos the sky, banishing the unholy light. But then Osse's heart was pierced with dread; for the stars slowly dimmed, then were quenched. For no light could pierce the dreadful smog of that haunted vale.
