Why is the ending so sad in the Return of the King - The Barrow-Downs Discussion Forum

I loved the end of the books. It was so good. After I read it, I just read it over and over again. It is so sad, but I love how it ends. I can't really explain what I mean, but I can say that I have never read anything better in my entire life. And that is why I am so obsessed with this story. I just can't get over it!
