Child was walking across the deck when she heard the hobrim's greeting to her Elven friends. She stopped dead and did not move forward, her mouth hanging open.

How was this possible? This was a Stoor, not a Fallohide. If you had assembled 500 hobbits in a single room, perhaps 2 of them might understand what was being said, and just 1 would have been able to use the greeting properly. Child was mildly astounded.
