strong contrast intensifies another's characteristics. This literary technique leaves me in no doubt that Tolkien deliberately made these chapters (forgive me, but) boring to accentuate the amazing beginnings of the New Age. It goes from repetition to completely unheard of, interesting turn-arounds.
