It's invariable that he will deviate from the original storyline (for which you can't blame just him. That's Hollywood) to make it more comprehensible to people who haven't read LoTR and to make it more commercial as well. So the least 'important' (read vital) charcter has been eliminated-Tom Bombadil. What if - what if this is as good as it gets?
