Gollum, as I understand, is computer generated. I thought Sean Astin made an excellent Sam, (though while watching the movie my mind kept thinking "Mikey", which made it a little weird) also Elijah Wood was a wonderful Frodo. Ian McKellen WAS Gandalf. I thought Billy Boyd made a wonderful Pippin, though Merry didn't stand out that much.
