Also, parents may need to shield kids from bad movies/language because the kids may not be prepared to hear that kind of language or see that type of violence--they may not be able to handle what they saw. It may give the kids nightmares. (Come on, some kids still think "shut up" qualifies as cursing.) However, parents shouldn't shield their kids in such an obvious way--they shouldn't say "Oh you can't watch this, you're not old enough," because, as you said, it only arouses curiosity and the child will find some other way to do whatever was banned from them. They should shield their kids in a more subtle way.
