I always thought that Peter Jackson got his ideas from the <A HREF="http://orcutts1.sbceo.k12.ca.us/public/dunlap/dire.html" TARGET=_blank>Dire Wolf</A> (note the similarity in the picture on the top left hand side)<P> <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:<HR>The dire wolf was a large canine that exhibited hyena like characteristics.
