Deagol first came to my mind, who found the ring and lost it to a friend, but then pride and anger does not fit. Maybe precious treasure is a silmaril or Naugrafarig, not the one ring? I'd have to think about this one. Precious ONES... MAybe it signifies Feanor? But then, Morgoth Bauglir was his greatest enemy, so the last line doesn't fit.

Maybe it was Thingol. Beren wanted Luthien, his precious treasure. He sent Beren to Angband Beren lost his arm, but won Luthien And his pride and anger made the Dwarves kill him. I can't get the rest to fit in. <font size=1 color=339966>[ 6:26 AM January 31, 2004: Message edited by: Thorongil ]

I still can't get it to fit, but here is the next one: I have a bad reputation And a hurting nose, I'm not very friendly, especially not with the husband of Rose. Who am I? Shouldn't be too difficult.

It is Bill Ferny. Sam hit him on the nose with an apple when the hobbits left Bree with Strider. Bill was a mean hombre

Is it Frodo? Taking leave of elves - Leaving Rivendell Four instead of two - Merry and Pippin coming too, instead of just him and Sam? Heavily burdened - He carries the weight of the ring. Yet, I'm not depressed - He's happy to have his friends with him?

Are you Celebrimbor, Celeb the Sindarin word for silver. The chief of the east is Sauron who later killed Celebrimbor, and mocked him by making the one ring. Gandalf has seen his craft in the west ( ) and is in posession of one of the three (Narya) given by Cirdan a lord of the coast.

Yes, I am! Correct on almost every point, Estanesse: Please continue. For those who like to know these things, The first two lines were merely meant to be a cryptic clue to the name: Silverlode = Celebrant - (speech in wrath = rant) = celeb + (edge = rim) + (Cheif of the east = Bor) = Celebrimbor. |

No right answer yet but Arvedui is warm, Hint: Look at the numbers BTW: I would like the reason, it makes it easier to give a hint.

The numbers? Lets see. 720. Hmm. Has to do with Rohirrim. So there'd be horses. Now lets see. A horse has 4 legs a man has 2. Now lets see, A horse for every man. A total of 6 legs. 120. So that would be 60 men 60 horses. Then 642 left the battleground. So that gives 107. 53.5 Men and horses so making it even I'd say 54 men 53 horses. Then 78 legs died. 13 died. so 6 men and 7 horses. Now what do I do? Am I on the right track? Do any of these numbers actually mean something?

I am stuck...here is what I have so far. Eomer said he lost 15 men and 12 horses in the battle with the orcs beside Fangorn forest. This loss totals 78 legs. Seven hundred and twenty minus 78 equals the 642 legs that Estanesse said left the battleground victorious. I can't figure out the 720 exactly though...Legalas sees 105 riders of Rohan coming in the distance and it is mentioned that there are 3 horseless riders (which matches perfectly with the fact of 15 men and 12 horses lost in battle). But 105 riders and 3 riderless horses equals 702 legs instead of 720. Possible typo, Estanesse??? I am at a loss to account for the extra 18 legs. I have spun the rest of the riddle in so many ways trying to figure it out...I am dizzy. Another hint, please! I am also thinking that one of the songs about the Rangers said something about 'The lost who knows the way'. But, I can't find it. Does this sound familiar to anyone???

There is no typo error . 120* 4= 480 120*2 = 240 equals 720 But I'm impressed good work. To find out who I'm isn’t so hard now
