LOTR nicknames

We all know that characters tend to get their own nicknames. So I thought it was time to share nicknames of characters actors and places. Ones that we have heard like Leggy for Legolas or ones we made up ourselves like mine for Hugo Weaving, American Lost in Middle earth.
Don't mean to bash america but he just looks so American or maybe it is the "Mr. Andersen" thing

Anyway what about you? What nicknames have you heard

My friends made up abbr. Australianised (said in australian accent) names for the whole fellowship one day
We call legolas "Legsie", Aragorn, "Azza" Gimli "Gimms" Sam "Gamms" Arwen "Arrey" Éomer " 'Omes" Éowyn "Winney" Frodo "Baggsie" ... This clearly shows that we have too much time on our hands.

Cos if so then Eowyndy - cos she mainly seems to just stand in the wind.

ElenCala Isil and I call Dom and Billy Uncle God and Uncle Satan (we like them both! Really! It's just a matter of Billy having red eyes...), and Aragorn is now Argon, Noble Gas and King of Gondor. We're still working out how a gas can be crowned, though...

Well i don't particularly have nicknames for the characters, but i do have way of referring to them so everyone will know who they are (ie stupid people ) and also nicknames for some of the cast.

So, the way i refer to them infront of the uninformed:

Frodo, the one with the Ring
Sam, the one with him
Aragorn, the one who is King
Gandalf, the one with the big hat
Gimli, the one with the axe
Legolas, the one who shoots things
Merry and Pippin, the other hobbits
Boromir, the one with the shield who got shot
Arwen, the one that looks like a horse in the movie
Sauron, the baddie

And then the actor's nicknames:

Beanie (Sean Bean)
Kelley (Sir Ian McKellen)
ChrisLee (soon to be Sir Christopher Lee)
VIggo or The Vig (pronunciation on the first half)
HUGO (in a loud forceful voice) and
The Fantastic Orlando (if you've seen Ned Kelly you'll know why)

Legolas: Dumb Blonde (No offence to any of the blondes out there; I myself am a dishwater blonde, (I hate that! Someday I'm gonna make up a new name for dishwater-blondes. It's just not fair!) so please don't take offense!)

Arggghhh!!!!! Alll of a sudden my mind just went blank! Oh well...I'll be back! (Said in best Arnold S. voice. ( I'm not even going to attempt last name!)

How about Frodo's ghetto name: Fro-fro Bag-bag.

I prefer to call Legolas Lego (because I like the toy and cringe at all the nicknames that have something to do with legs).

And lastly: Arwen: She-who-must-not-be-named.

Yeah, but usually i'm trying to tell people about the books and I don't wanna call him The Pretty One. It is very true though, and a fitting nickname.

I like Da Beard From Da Block. Usually with my LOTR-savvy friends he is referred to as *sharp voice* GIMLI! like how Gandalf says it as he runs towards the Chamber of Mazarbul

Gimli - Highmli (don't ask me why!)

I think that's about it. One of my friends calls Samwise 'Samuel,' but that's just to get on her sister's nerves...

Bori, Borrums (do the Wave), DK (disco king, of course), and "Bad A$$ Balrog Stopper" all for Boromir

Leggy, "The Elf with no Sense of Direction" for Legolas

"What the h311 is his name?" and "Where... is... Gan...dalf?" for Celeborn

Gandy for our Resident White Wizard

The Mer-Man for Eomer

The Witch King for Bombadil

Well, I don't have many nicknames, but here they are anyway:

Eowyn - Wynnie, to annoy my best friend (she can't stand it)
Legolas - Leggie, just because
Gandalf - Gaffy, because it's easier to use during a discussion
Sam - Sammie

And that's about it. For book use. Don't get me started on the movies.

Oh, and I loved the 'She-who-must-not-be-named' thing!

Hm. Can't say as I've ever thought of any nicks for characters or actors, for the most part, though I do referr to 'Lijah as either "Li'l Mr. Wood" or "Little one. " Not reffering so much to his height, as I believe he's got a couple of inches on me in that respect, but,seeing as how I'm 10 years his senior and, sadly, probably wiegh at least twice as much as he does... (the kid looks like he could blow away in a strong wind, honestly.....)

Another name that I've heard for him that didn't come from me was "Wunderkind"....

Frodo= Stupid. (Sorry FrodoFans, it's just that every time someone tells Frodo not to do something [don't look at the light! Don't put on the ring!] he goes and does it! My instant reply is "What did he just tell you, Stupid?!?!" I guess the name just stuck.)
Elrond= Agent Elrond
Haldir= Guy We Don't Care About. (My sister made that one up when she asked who the dying elf was and why we cared about him.)
Gandalf= Gandy or Gan-Gan. (Yes, we like repetative two syllable names here in the land of Maeggaladiel)
Legolas= Leggo. Very uncreative, I know.
Faramir= Fara-buddie or Far-Far
Denethor= Flamethrower Man, Human Torch, or Psycho Daddie.
Eowyn= Glom. (Because she GLOMS on to any man who isn't from her own kingdom.) :biggrin:
Galadriel= Scary Elf Lady
Celeborn= Other elf we don't care about. Also called "The Amazing One-Liner"

My brother and I first watched the fellowship with some of his friends a little after it came out on dvd. I had read all the books and knew what was going on but my brothers friend had only read the Hobbit. He asked who the knife throwing dude was and I told Him Legolas. "Lost-a-Leg!!!???" And ever since then he's called him "Lost-a-leg". Heres my list of names

Legolas- Lost-a-leg

Frodo- Fruity (my brothers friend also came up with this one)

Pippin- Pip ('cause that just sounds so cute)

Saruman- guy with perfect nails

Gollum- Frog dude (also my brothers friend)

*listens to the whirring of Tolkien in his grave* The few I use generally sound normal. Celebri for Celebrimbor...and occasionally for my darling Mini, Celebrimbror. Oh...and we call Movie!Legolas Captain Obvious....and Daeron is commonly called MINE!!!!!!....as is Feanor...and then there is Gimli, also referred to as *narrows eyes* Don't dis the Dwarf!...and...ah...*shuffles feet* Guess you'd better forget my first sentance then, huh?

“Today class,” Miss Cam said, smiling broadly, “we are going to talk about some of the things you do to Middle-earth names that doesn’t actually breed a mini-Balrogs. We are going to talk about…”

She took a dramatic pause, looking out over the class.

“Nicknames. That’s right, the horribly cutesy names that some have an urge to give to grown-up elves/hobbits/men. Quite frankly, I’m almost relieved there is no mini-Balrogs to gain there, because I cannot imagine something trying to be scary with a name like ‘Legsie’. Honestly…”

“But… But they are cute!” one girl argued.

Miss Cam narrowed her eyes. “Cute, you say? Let us observe a little experiment… If I may draw your attention to the window…”

The class reluctantly moved to the windows, gazing down to see a group of orcs gathered and a few metres away, Legolas, Frodo and Gandalf.

Syndarys immediately tried to sneak off to the door to get down there, but Borimir and Farimir were on guard and blocking the door. They sure moved fast, those mini-Balrogs.

“Observe, students. Orcs, take battle positions. Legolas, draw your bow.”

The class swooned as Legolas within a heartbeat had an arrow drawn and ready to fire.

“Impressive, yes? Even the orcs are wary of him. However, watch the effect of this…”

Taking a deep breath, Miss Cam leaned out the window.

“My Leggy, my adorable Legsie, please save me!”

The orcs looked at each other, then all of them broke into laughter. A few nearly fell down laughing so hard.

“See? Thank you, Legolas. Gandalf?”

Gandalf lifted his staff and sword, shining white in the sun. He looked most impressive, and the orcs stopped laughing.

“You shall not pass!” Gandalf said, and the orcs shifted their feet and looked ready to bolt.

“Again, observe this – Gandy-wandy, be careful!”

The orcs looked at each other. A few mouthed ‘Gandy-wandy’ before letting out a collective roar of laughter.

“I don’t think we’ll need your services Frodo, but thank you. Now, students, what did you learn from this?”

“Gandy-wandy! LEGGY!” the orcs howled, leaning on each other.

“Thank you, orcs, now get going before I start calling you all ‘Orcy- dorky’.”

The orcs ran off like their bums were on fire, leaving Legolas, Gandalf and Frodo to smirk. - OFUM
