Well, of course it's a real quote, just not a real one from LOTR...right?!

It was actually true - from the book. In the chapter, The Last Debate, Legolas sings it. Hold on while I find and/or think of another one.

Sorry to disapoint you bilbo_baggins, but it is indeed true. Gandalf said in the Hobbit (and I quote):
