I remember the first day I read that line - I just sat there, dumbfounded. Obviously Numenor was Atlantis. How was it that had never occurred to me before? And of course, if Numenor was Atlantis, well... there the repercussions start. I just sat there, letting those thoughts wash over me for quite a while.
