Maedhros is one of my two favorites because he seems like the most level-headed of Feanor's sons. He was least likely to explode and kill someone, and he actually tried to heal some of the damage caused by his father.
My second favorite, Beleg Cuthalion, is even more straightforward. He went to any lengths to help his friend, even if it ultimately meant his death. Such devotion is rarely found in any race, at any time.

And Maedhros is fascinating, arguably the most tragic figure in Middle-earth history (with his great virtues and flaws).
