Evisse puts on some glasses and peers closely at Exhibit A, that is, davem's avatar.
Trying to hide the fact that she has no idea what the avatar is supposed to represent, she studies it attentively for a couple of seconds, muttering: "Interesting...yes, quite interesting".

Then, being in the mood of a controversy, she began, in a solemn voice:

"But I ask you, my fellow Downers, although I'm not in doubt of your good intentions, I'm slightly taken aback by your verocious attack on one of us, so to speak, for the base purpose of his getting a personal title, or should I say, be caged by the two (or three at most) words that usually constitute a personal titles here on the Downs? And for what immediate purpose? Solely for the sake of your viewing and chatting pleasure, is that not right? So that afterwards you may praise its wit, its careful choice of wording, its appropriateness, and then, after a while, completely forget about it and ignore it, in the mass of personal title that has come to crowd our barrow, or become so accustomed to it, as to refer to our complex, controversial, multi-layered and considerably intelligent poster, not as he wants to be known (that is, davem, which is his name, after all), but as, say, Loremaster of the Seventh Age, or Oversized Hobbit Wanderer, or God knows what else, maybe even Lord of the Rings."

*fearful gasps interrupted her speech, when she dared to utter the unutterable*

During the noisy debates that followed, she tiptoed outside, leaving her speech unfinished.

Its supposed to be this - Denis Bridoux's version of the Tolkien Society logo. It shows the two trees, the Silmarils & the Sun & Moon.

And I had a lot of trouble putting it up as it is! Ask Helen.

And if the rest of us had to work so hard for our avatars, there would be fewer of them. (insert anti-MAC tirade here) ....nah, nevermind.

Two trees, silmarils, sun&moon... and is that Meneltarma? No, of course not. Silly me. It's that valinorish mountain that Manwe's throne is on. Yeah, yeah, that one, the one called... gmph....
