IMHO, Martin Shaw did a pretty good job overall. Off the top of my head, I don't recall any places where he was totally offbase in pronunciation, and there are only a handful of places where he drops a letter or garbles something. I always smile when I get to the point when he says &quot;Angbang&quot; instead of &quot;Angband&quot; after having said it correctly about 50 times before that. It is also great to hear him deliver some of the scathing lines in there. When Thingol chews out Beren for having the temerity to even enter Doriath. Or Fëanor with his sword against Fingolfin's throat. Húrin and his &quot;Aurë entulava!&quot; And the creepiness of hearing Morgoth or Sauron. Most of Martin Shaw's pronunciations are stuck in my head now. Tolkien's works were meant to be read aloud. Even the material that filtered through Christopher. (Just don't try it with the commentary portions of HoME!&quot; <img src=smile.gif ALT="">
