Perhaps he meant "line" as in the family line of Isildur. Only the heir of Isildur could wield Narsil, and it could very well have been the belief that the line of Isildur died with him and his sons at the Gladden Fields.

But, of course, we know better. ^_~

I noticed that too and I think it's a bit weird line that Aragorn has (ehh...no pun intended

).

But seriously, I wonder if there's going to be something between those lines in the EE. I can't imagine, what it could be, though.

Surely it's simply a play on the connection between the Sword that was Broken being remade and the line of the Kings that was broken being renewed. Narsil reforged as Anduril is a symbol (the symbol in the films) of Aragorn's right to the throne. Hence Elrond's words to him at Dunharrow.

Ahh, good point SpM, renewed. That makes so such more sense.

But then why not use renewed instead of remade? Renewed blades and lines make sense, but not remade blades and lines.

I always thought it was the blade was broken. Must look into that.

Perhaps what he means when he says the line was broken, is that Aragorn was to believed to be dead, thus breaking the line of kings. Hmm...

They may have thought it was broken with the death of Isildur. After all, how could they have known that Isildur's youngest son escaped to Rivendell? And seeing Aragorn, with Teh Sword, would be an eye opener and no mistake!

Why didn`t Valandil (Isildur`s youngest son) or anyone after him ever go reclaim the throne of Gondor?
