I agree with Grounds-Keeper-Willie in saying that Boromir would take the ring. Between the two possible guys up for it (Aragorn & Boromir) only Boromir had a strong desire to posess the ring. Of course the quest would fail because Boromir would give in. As for Aragorn he was confused about the path that he wanted to take it took the events that took place during th quest for him to realize what he wanted to do.
