I must apologize for my sudden absence and subsequent failure to post when I had promised to do so. My vacation took an unexpected turn which removed me from internet access. It may be just as well. Sad chuckles like the two I had planned don't really deserve the light of day.

I shall make a glorious (or more likely ignominious) return to advance the plot in the next few days.
