THE RANGER
(Parody of 'The Boxer' by Simon & Garfunkel) I am called a Ranger but my story’s seldom told I have well-concealed my lineage, for the sake of all that I hold good on Middle-Earth. All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear And disregards the rest, hmmmm When my father died in battle, I was no more than a boy In the company of Elrond In the quietude of Rivendell, all runnin’ scared Laying low, seeking out the ancient writings, from an entire Age ago Looking for the knowledge only Elves would know Lie la lie .... When I reached the age of twenty, I saw beauty in the woods, then I thought of Luthien. It was Elrond’s elven child, Arwen Undomiel. I do declare, as a mortal, I was full of grief and took no comfort there, la-la-lah ... (Instrumental) Lie la lie .... So I thus began my journeys, gaining wisdom all along, I am older than I once was, and younger than I’ll be, that’s not unusual In the service of Rohan and of Gondor, I have fought for greater good, Almost sixty years I've fought for greater good Lie la lie .... In the Elven Hall of Rivendell I see Isildur’s Bane, lying there ’Tis a broken heirloom waiting to be forged again, forged again, lying there. At this Council stands a hobbit, Frodo Baggins with the Ring And he’ll carry this reminder of the evil pow’r of Sauron that will haunt him on his journey, for nigh-on forty days, “I’ll be leading, I’ll be leading, though I do not know the way” Know the way .... Lie la lie .... |
