The sci-fi tv show "Babylon 5" used several Tolkien references. I think the most prominent reference would be the Rangers, secret guardians of the borders. I also read somewhere that Strazinski (shows creator) compared one of the characters to Boromir in an interview. I don't remember which character that was though. I'll have to do some digging.
