I'm certain I was repdrunk a short while ago - I got about 10 reps in 3 days, 4 for one post. It was most exhilarating, though I'm back to my normal self now.

Me too. I got three new boxes within a couple of weeks. I guess I had done something right after all. Now that so many members have high reputation, it's easier to gain points. When this rep system was pretty new, I got once eight or so points from a rather reputed person. I thought it was a tremendous amount. Now it's not unusual to get 20-30 points from a member.

I think it's not important how many points you get from a rep, though. It's just so nice to see that somebody actually liked your post. Personally, I feel that I have learned from your rep comments, thank you.

So, I'll admit to being lazy, I don't have time to read through 20 pages on reputations. It may already have been done, but perhaps people have changed since then. So:
What are your requirements for repping a post? Most of the reps I give are for posts that make me laugh audibly, humour being what I'm looking for. I do give the oddrep for a well balanced arguments or good point in the Books, but this is comparatively rare. Consider yourself lucky if you get one.

I got a few reps for a thread I started, it was kinda special feeling, like I just got kissed by Frodo. *Sigh* Oh uh, where am I? Oh, right! Reputations!

I got a few reps, and felt special, then thought: "What are reputations for?" So I ask: What are they for?

Fordim gave a rather effective criteria which I have adopted:

Honest to goodness, my only criteria for repping posts has become the "out loud" test. If I make a noise in response to a post, it deserves repping.

For example, if a post is so funny that I laugh out loud. . .rep it.

If it's making so interesting a point that I hmmmmm thoughtfully. . .rep it.

If it's making a bizarre point, but doing so in such a compelling manner that I make an audible see-saw noise -- hmmmm-mummmmm . . .rep it.

Finally, if it's just so well written that I give a satisfied grunt -- hunmph (this happens primarily in RPGs). . .rep it.

The one exception is posts that make me click my tongue in disapproval. . .those I ignore.

Another bonus? I would have thought that the omnipotence and encouragement to kill people in most long-winded, hilarious, and gory ways would be enough for anyone. It was enough for me to sign up. I mean... Ever since Saucie's post with the red cape and wolfish-grandma... I've coveted that job.
