Hello all. I'm new to these boards but have posted on the GDI, CoE, MT, TPTS (you name it). Was very intrigued by the number of recent posts on these boards which indicated an active membership. I translated my name myself: parma=book, asta=month, hir=root for "to find". Literally, "book of months finder". In essence, "calendar collector". My Tolkien passion is the Tolkien calendars. I have catalogued my collection at:

www.angelfire.com/tn3/tolkiencalendars

Would appreciate comments and messages from you if you know of or have any calendars that I have not found (yet!) I love the interpretations of the many illustrators out there - from the very well-known (Howe and Nasmith) to the obscure (Korablev) to the "Who knew?" (for example, Alex Lewis!) Hope you enjoy it!

Welcome, Parmastahir! It's good to have a member adding a new aspect of Tolkienism to the site! We have discussed collector's items in the past on this thread: The Collection Grows, so if you wade through or skim over those 21 pages, there is sure to be mention of some calendar or other.

I took a brief peek at your site, and though you say you don't collect movie-related calendars, I would like to mention that, as far as I know, a movie bookmark calendar (see it here) is Germany's unique contribution to the topic. Aside from the German Tolkien Society's calendar (which has an illustration by Anke Eissmann, a wonderful young artist whom I met in Birmingham last summer), which you have on your list, I am not aware of any others that are available only in Germany. I wish Anke Eissmann, whose Tolkien and related artwork can be seen on her website, would do a whole calendar. Her paintings are fantastic - I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

Hi Estelyn -

While I don't collect the movie-related calendars (with a very few exceptions), I am aware of A BUNCH of them. Re any calendars from Germany, you can do an advanced search ebay using the keywords "Herr der Ringe kalender" or "Tolkien kalender" and searching either Germany (specifically) or Worldwide (generally). You will certainly find many LotR movie calendars (or kalenders!) there. They may, as you note, not be particularly unique but simply German editions of the 'standard' New Line calendars.

Thanks for the comments and your welcome. I have met any number of fellow collectors on other boards and look forward to doing the same here. I had seen The Collection Grows thread and skimmed through it. I will take a longer look and post a reply there, also.

Away from the Green Hill Country,

Parmastahir

Hey! I'm new to the forum world, but I'm a fast learner. I'm not very good at naming things, so this one is a rip off from a Terry Pratchett book. Call me Sally. It's easier to remember (and spell).

Fantasy is my life. Apart from Tolkien, some other favorites include Terry Pratchett, Tamora Pierce, Robert Jordan, Tad Williams, Orson Scott Card (although he's more sci-fi than fantasy)......the list goes on, but I'll spare you and my ability to remember names. Lets just say it's a long list.

Home is Wexford, PA, but I'm currently living in Giessen, Germany (a smaller city north of Frankfurt). I'm here with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program through AFS, and so far it's been the most amazing experience of my life! I'll be home next August and reunited once again with my overflowing bookcase.

Not much more to say other than wOOt, I'm excited to join!
