One person (or, at most, two people) voting for the same contestant each day until he or she goes is not boring. That happens frequently in these shows and is my general chosen modus operandi. What is boring is for everyone else to simply vote the same way each day, which (however satisfying for them) removes any element of excitement from the "contest".

The situation is easy to remedy, though. Either Smith is voted off and the game can move on, or people stop voting en masse for the same character just to save him (which is hardly justified, given that only two at most are voting for him) and the snorefest becomes a proper contest.

The third option, as far as I am concerned, is simply to opt out and leave you all to your cosy arrangements. Which, as I said, is a distinct possibility the way things are going.

The 1,000 Reader is still gossiping in the Green Dragon.
++Niggle.

Why? Because For is Niggle and he made a reference to a certain Japanese craze and has tainted the forums.

'Tis far, far easier to work Dorkins into a parody than Smith of Wootton Major.

So we are here on a Dorkin plane.
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where insensed wills clash by night.
And Diamond counts the chads by day.
Fall as they may.

For this alone, it must be a double vote.

++ Matthew Arnold

++ Herbert Dorkins

And if the howls of the mer-dogs singing keep me up tonight, I may come to regret this vote.

Silmaril End of Day the Seventeenth

Ah, I love the smell of controversy in the morning. A mini kafuffle arose when some found fault in the voting style of others, but at the end it did not change the result any:

Herbert Dorkins: 4 votes

Smith of Wootton Major: 2 votes

Mew, the Seagull: 2 votes

Niggle: 1 vote

And so, Herbert was spanked with a battledore until his bottom bled and he died from blood less.

Day the Eighteenth finds 29 contestants remaining:

Farmer Giles of Ham

Ćgidius Ahenobarbus Julius Agricola de Hammo (Farmer Giles of Ham)
Gram, his dog
Chrysophylax Dives
The Miller
The Parson
Sunny Sam (Fabricius Cunctator) The Blacksmith

Smith of Wootton Major/Leaf By Niggle

Master Cook Rider
Alf the Prentice, King of Faerie
Smith of Wootton Major
Nell
Queen of Faerie
Niggle

The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (Poems)

Goldberry
Badger
Old Man Willow
The Barrow-wight
Goodman Maggott
Fíriel

Roverandom
The Wizard Artaxerxes
Mew, the Seagull

In other words, "THEY need to change but not ME."

There is a fourth option: realize you can't get Smith (because there are too many who love the character {not LMP but the story character}) and move on to a more realistically removable candidate. Then the game can go on with more interesting possibilities. Why not give it a try?

As for my vote today, I have no problems with evicting....

Leave him in now and he might find
his arrogant soulmate (Saruman)
and together in Middle-earth they might
"Cry havoc and loose the dogs of war" (or whatever).

Precisely. After all, it is THEY that are wrong, not ME.

So why not abandon the "contest" and simply appoint Smith the winner without further ado?

+ + SMITH OF WOOTON MAJOR

Quite. Smith for winner!

++SMITH OF WOOTTON MAJOR

Oh, I seem to have voted for Smith to go by accident. What a disaster. Everyone, vote for Smith and you might persuade me to change my vote. How does that sound?

Celuin (and others - you know who you are), why not save yourself the time of visiting this thread simply by arranging a standing vote, as follows:

+ + Whichever one littlemanpoet votes for
