I'd love a real Hobbit hole in these temperatures! Having viking blood (its a colourful and possible explanation for being pale and loving the winter months

) and growing up near the coast means I just can't cope with inland heat and foul city pollution; the air was yellow outside my office window on Wednesday and my eyes were red and itching. I felt very ill indeed two evenings this week.

The only cool spot in our house is the living room, that faces south west but gets the shade of a tree all day long, and its in this weather that I'm glad that the cellar beneath it is excessively damp as the air circulates up. I don't even get the benefit of lying out roasting in the sun as I'd burn in minutes so I have to skulk in the shadows all day.
