He's useless! Useless I say! So he helped a little on the Quest, but so did most of the other random Dwarves. And he fathered Gimli, but that doesn't mean much either as we don't generally keep people like Arathorn or the Gaffer around much.

It always baffled me too. An old geezer like Tom should have a stout, twinkly wife, with greying hair, sleeves rolled up and flour on her elbows. Not some ethereal blonde flitting around. It's undignfied for all concerned, like Donald Trump or Rod Stewart, ageing bores with trophy wives...bleugh. Off with her.
