I have rediscovered my passion for Tolkien after 20 years and it's so much nicer to study him now that I don't have that pesky college to worry about.

Amen to that! As for pronouncing Mithcham, all I can gather is that the -ch is a variation on -h and would be pronounced as it is in Bach, thus Mithcham would sound rather like you were clearing your throat! A great place to investigate Tolkien's languages is here:
