Hello everybody. I'm so unbelievably ancient I read LOTR for the first time in the "first authorized paperback edition." (Ok, 1969, and I was 15 yrs old) The films, in my opinion, are an incredible achievement/translation from literature to the language of film (and there is a BIG difference). But they both stand up to repeated readings/viewings. And I wasn't nearly so moved by the Grey Havens scene at age 15 as I was at age...well, you do the math !
Oh yes, and my first beloved cat was named Frodo...
