No one at my house understands it at all. My younger bros read it, but they don't have the greatest reading comprehension ever. My dad tried the first book, but he didn't get through the first chapter, thinking it was a kids book. the sad part about that is that I read the same books he does, and I certainly don't think it's a "kids" book. (I'm 12, though I don't really consider myself a kid) I don't have any friends who are really LotR fans either.
