If Gollum hadn't been there (i.e., if sam had killed him?) and bit the ring off Frodo...would Sam have intervened? If reason, force or violence didn't work, would Sam have sacrificed Frodo to save Middle Earth? (i.e. tossing frodo into Mt Doom...!!!)
