Bored of the Rings

I think I remember the earlier thread, but the link above didn't work.
The book itself is rather spotty: funny in some places, dumb in others. Much of the humour is notably dated, with 1960's references abounding.
That said, I would recommend it as being at least worth a look to the Tolkien fan. The Council of Elrond parody is to me one of the best parts.

Frito suddenly felt that all eyes were on him. "Couldn't we drop (the Ring) down a storm drain, or pawn it and swallow the ticket?" he said.
"Alas", said Goodgulf solemnly, "it is not that easy".
"But why?"
"Alas", explained Goodgulf.
"Alackaday," Orlon agreed.
