Funny, I had already suggested the Kine, but I edited the post with the Mearas before you had a chance to read it.

I have to admit though, I dont think I have ever read about the Kine of Araw myself, having only read the Silm once and not even finished Unfinished Tales yet.
Spent alot of time searching the Creature section @ tolkiengateway (Well in a sense, I did read about them, just not in one of Tolkiens books ^^)

Anyway, I'm gonna have to wait untill I get home before I can post a new vague description. I have some books to skim through...
