"Pom poms?" Formendacil paused guiltily, noting Nerwen's fluttering eyelashes. Did all the Downer girls have to be pretty? "Oh. Those pom poms."

He glanced guiltily back at the table the cards had been at, and could just catch a glimpse of one of the poms where he had tried stuffing them under the seat.

"Sorry," he said, "I must've lost them... somewhere. I think I'll sit this game out. I'd rather lose my devalued Canadian dollars on English ales than cards."

And maybe he'd avoid looking for Sally just yet. Brinn had just walked in, and as the only Downer of his previous acquaintance, he wanted to say hi--and then perhaps slip off to a corner to pray Vespers. At least if Nilp or Isabellkya hadn't taken all the good corners, anyway...
