Somehow, before I had seen the movies, I just didn't think about Legolas as a character. Same with Gimli. They were just, well, there. If you had asked me this question before I had seen the movies, I would either have said "who's Haldir?" or thought a moment, remembered who he was, and decided I had no opinion on the subject as they were both under- described.
