I agree with Luthien_ Tinuviel. If well done, an opera would be more capable of expressing the meaning and depth of the books, but a musical? Musical's are for Broadway! That sounds more like spoof ammo to me. I'm almost absolutely positive Tolkien is turning in his grave at the mere notion of something like that. (And I'm sure it's not to the music from Rent either!)
