I never said that he had "walked this earth" for "300 lives of men". Ian McKellen said that.

If we wanted to, we could make sense of this line by taking it to mean that Gandalf had been 'there' for 300 lives of men, but not necessarily in Middle-earth. Imbar need not be synonymous with Endor. Perhaps it is meant to imply that Men have been around for 300 of their life-spans, whatever.
