Some of the pictures in the old Tolkien Bestiary weren't far off this.

The Hobbits are totally off of course, though one looks a bit like a Jawa which is funny. I really do like the Witch King though, and there's no reason why Gandalf shouldn't look a bit like Roy Wood with farmer arms. I'd imagine Gandalf was a bit sinewy anyway.

I actually really like the illustration of the hobbit squaring off with the wolf/warg. Roy Wood? Haven't heard that name since the 70s.
