TAVROBEL: Rave, bolt around, but find the little town! ROCHALLOR: Animated king combines with vault for a mount. ISENGARD: Iniquity and muck combine for him. SILMARIL: Stone me! A book without a beast. Or an article. YOZAYAN: Gift of a street map book, mirrored within a small round toy one short November. LORIEN: Here is a North Oxford college in minimal confusion. LALAITH: Oh la la! It helps if you look for her carefully. (She’s running along, as was her wont). ARVEGIL: He’s easily confused with the middle name of Christopher’s sometime helper. BELTHRONDING: A weapon showing effects of peroxide? There’s three scattered inside, barring the loss of direction – but most of it falls in a clump. ISENGARD: It’s here, somewhere in this newly risen garden. CELEBRANT: A very flower of a priest? THE SILMARILLION - LION (BEAST) - THE (ARTICLE) = SILMARIL. And over to Urwen!

Well, I had the 1st letter, and it's kind of what they're both known for. Vietnamese money is DONG. Dongron? Dongbill? Nogrod? Whoops! It starts with S.

i have now. 1. I hear he’s a bloke who delivers grain? 2. Fallen hero – sounds a bit like a Salford artist, but living in a Devonshire village. 3. Note. Three notes, alternatively. Lose a dental plosive to find yourself here. 4. Here is a preening tool, note. Take the fifth. 5. Sit astride this place, but lose your way. Take the sixth. 6. Here we find Robin Hood, professionally, in a way? Lost his way but had tea, or so we hear. 7. Good French runs backward to reveal him. 8. Little forest of unfair play? Lose an article to lose this reputation. Take the eighth.

2 sounds ominous. Is it literal? I suppose you can count Gollum as a hero, having ended Sauron's reign and all that.

Not completely sure what you mean by that. The answer is a fallen hero, though. Oh! Sorry. It isn't a hero who fell from grace. Just someone who died heroically.

Lowry is the correct element, but Doln is wrong. It's not an obvious or elvish-sounding hero, and it's only 'sounds like' Lowry. I'd try some of the other clues first.

LOL. I am crying... OMG... This is fantastically ridiculous... I've picked up the acronym from Werewolf games, and no one really ever explained what it stands for, I don't think, but by context I interpreted it as "edit to add". Like P.S. I guess in WW it's important to mark any changes that were made as an edit, so maybe that's how this particular combo evolved. I actually only learned that it also means "estimated time of arrival" a few years ago, and the first time I saw it used that way I was confused because what is there to add or to edit in a text message?

BARLIMAN: I hear he’s a bloke who delivers grain? ROWLIE APPLEDORE: Fallen hero – sounds a bit like a Salford artist, but living in a Devonshire village. E Note. Three notes, alternatively. Lose a dental plosive to find yourself here. COMBE: Here is a preening tool, note. Take the fifth. STADDLE: Sit astride this place, but lose your way. Take the sixth. ARCHET: Here we find Robin Hood, professionally, in a way? Lost his way but had tea, or so we hear. NOB: Good French runs backward to reveal him. CHETWOOD: Little forest of unfair play? Lose an article to lose this reputation. Take the eighth. That's him! Great limerick, Galadriel! One to go. There's a term for three notes ... think three notes together, kind of like a chord ....

Embarrassingly, I had to look this up - embarrassingly because I am supposed to remember something about music, but I have no recollection even of learning this term in the first place - but a three note chord is called a triad. Making the final answer ERIADOR.
