I am surprised that I never noticed this thread. My personal experiences with rereading The Hobbit, LoTR, etc. is addressed, in part, in this thread: http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthread.php?t=14190

From when I first read LoTR in the early 1970s through the early 1990s, I probably averaged 2 to 3 rereads of LoTR and at least the Silmarillion (once it came out) per year. During the early 1990s, I didn't have copies for a while and even when I recovered mine or got new ones, I maybe reread them once a year. This changed in the late 1990s when I discovered HoME, and from then forward, I generally resumed my usual practice of at least 2 reads per year. I still thoroughly enjoy my rereads of LoTR and the Silmarillion.

Rereads of the Hobbit followed a similar path. Though recently I find it more difficult to sustain my attention on that book.

HoME I now peruse off and on. My last dedicated read was a few years ago, and i tend to focus upon my favorites.
