After he sneaks past the sharp-eyed lookout following his narrow escape through the back door, it says, "It is a fact that Bilbo's reputation went up a very great deal with the dwarves after this... If they had still doubted that he was really a first-class burglar... they doubted no longer."

I thought this one would be a gimme following as closely on the heels as it did to your back door question.
