Reading the Legend of the Awakening of the Elves; [Appendix to Quendi and Eldar, I'd say the Vanyar (Minyar; named by themselves, and for themselves), wern't very bright, generally non-interactive with other Elvish clans, and somewhat greedy.

They had their just dessert served up cold.

I wonder if there was a cherry on top of the Yavanna Split.
