Well, for me, the first time I read it was a couple of years before I read it again. I had forgotten a lot of it and needed to read it again so I could compare it to the movie. Many books, especially Tolkien, are very deep and have storyes behind the stories. You can always discover something knew everytime you read them. It also helps, when your memry is as bad as mine, to read it so you can sound like you know something at the BD. I also sometimes re read things for lack of anything better to read!
