The greatest hobbit: probably Sam, but Bilbo, Frodo, Merry and Pippin are nearly as great.

Maiar: Olorin (Gandalf)

Dwarves: Durin the Deathless

Hobbit: Well, that's a tough one. Sam, Pip, Merry, Frodo, and Bilbo were all great in their own way. I think I'd have to go with Sam though.

Maia: either Sauron or Sauron, or maybe even Sauron

Dwarf: Durin

I am afraid I'm going to have to be unoriginal in this post.

Dwarf - Durin (I think he's the greatest, but I like Gimli better)

Hobbit - Sam

Maia - Gandalf

My opinions....

Hobbit: Frodo (how can you not give him credit for being Ringbearer?)

Dwarf: Obviously Durin I, although Dáin Ironfoot could've given him a run for his money.

Maia: Melian, definetly. Remember, her daughter threw down Sauron's stronghold in the First Age.

Earwen....how can you even
coinsider Mîm???

Eonwe is the greatest Maiar, herald of Manwe and the leader of the host of the valar in the attack on Morgoth.

1420!

Well, one great Hobbit that wasn't mentioned and people seem to forget about is The Old Took. And I'd have to say that Frodo is the greatest period.

Well for hobbits, that Bullroarer guy was pretty impressive, having decapitated a goblin with a club and sending it down a hole.

As for dwarves, i would say Azghal because he was the one who drove off Glaurung.

Maiar: Maybe Tulkas, hes a maia i think
