1420!

Good question, wrong forum. This should be in Novices and Newcomers, but it'll get moved and it's all right. Here's a thread that is similar, but not the same.

As for me, I think it's too hard to pick a favorite, but I'll narrow it down to these (rather long though): The Shadow of the Past, Three Is Company, A Shortcut to Mushrooms, A Conspiracy Unmasked, The Old Forest, In the House of Tom Bombadil, Fog on the Barrow-Downs, At the Sign of the Prancing Pony, Strider, Treebeard, Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit, The Window on the West, The Forbidden Pool, and The Stairs of Cirith Ungol.

"Favourite" threads are better suited for Novices & Newcomers. This thread is being moved there...

As for myself:

'The Siege of Gondor' for the descriptions, especially of Gandalf casting back the Nazgul - very impressive

Quote:
It seemed to Pippin that a pale light was spread about it and the heavy shadows gave way before it; and then as it drew near he thought that he heard, like an echo in the walls, a great voice calling. [...] But now the dark swooping shadows were aware of the newcomer. One wheeled towards him; but it seemed to Pippin that he raised his hand, and from it a shaft of white light stabbed upwards. The Nazgūl gave a long wailing cry and swerved away; and with that the four others wavered, and then rising in swift spirals they passed away eastward vanishing into the lowering cloud above; and down on the Pelennor it seemed for a while less dark.
Others include 'The Black Gate Opens' (the climax battle), 'The Bridge of Khazad-dum' (for the action), 'Lothlorien,' and plenty of others...

The Council Of Elrond. I just cannot get enough of that description of Boromir!

The Tower of Cirith Ungol, The Land of Shadow, Mount Doom, The Grey Havens. Those are my favourites. I really like seeing those hobbits pull through and kick some butt.

I find many chapters to be particularly moving. In fact, I think there are too many to name. The chapters that encompass the Shire, the Old Forest, Bree and the flight to Rivendell always move me immensley. The bridge of Khazad-dum is particularly powerful, as are the chapters that tell of Lothlorien. In the Two Towers, my favorite chapter would have to be the Voice of Saruman, followed closely by the Palantir and Helms Deep. In the Return of the King, the Muster of Rohan, the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and The Black Gates Open are my favorites. They are all so well constructed and all advance the story so fluidly. I could not possibly pick a favorite chapter overall but I will attempt to do so here...

The Fellowship of the Ring: In the House of Tom Bombadil

The Two Towers: The Voice of Saruman

The Return of the King: Battle of the Pelenor Field

In the Silmarillion, my favorite chapter is the Flight of the Noldor.

Pellenor Fields, The Council of Elrond are the chapters for me.

The Council is very detailed and full of detailed more (need I say more? )

I got very emotional at Pellenor. I even dreamt of it.

The last Chapter of RotK is a definite favorite. I read the whole thing out loud, and when Frodo was saying his last words to Sam, I was still reading out loud, and sobbing the whole time.

I Like the chapters A Conspiracy unmasked because it is really unexpectant. I also like Flotsam and Jetsam,Many meetings, The mirror of Galadriel and The Muster of Rohan.
Also At the sign of The Prancing Pony is a fun chapter, however each time I read it I get slightly annoyed at frodo's stupidity.

Post it at the dreams thread!

I also loved Many Meetings. I don't remember reading that part at the same time listening to the track in the soundtrack, but they sure do feel the same.

The Fellowship: The Bridge of Khazad-Dum
Two Towers: The White Rider
Return Of The King: The Grey Havens
And for those who have read The Silmarillion,,,my fav chapter would be The Flight Of The Noldor. If you havn't read it,, please do! It is a must read.

Welcome to the Downs, Ulmo's Wave!

I had to read The White Rider twice because I found out before reading (and before watching the film) that Gandalf comes back. But by the time I read it out loud, I felt as awed as Legolas, and almost cried myself.

My favorite Silm chapter is the Ainulindale. I can say I gained a lot of wisdom through philosophizing over time and creation by reading this chapter again and again.

hey,
i've actually posted here several times before but under a different name. I also love the chapter "The Tale Of Tinuviel" Lost Tales II. It's a lil different cuz it kinda trades Tevildo, Prince of Cats, in for Sauron. I have a wierd theory of how they could be possibly tied together,,but that would take some time.adios

Well lets see I think my favorite chapter would have to be.....umm..I'm having a battle between Shelob's Lair and Scouring of the Shire. They were both really good chapters! But I guess I would have to pick Shelob's Lair. Because, it shows really how much Sam really cares for Frodo and at the same time it was cool and adventureous!

"The Scouring" is also full of suspense, and you get to see our lovable Hobbits mature.
