Boots Radom Tiltes say "Mark Twain!!"

Quote:
How in the world have I become, to the collective consciousness, a voice clone of Avril Lavigne?
I'm refusing to conform by saying: forget about the music, Lavigne is too high pitched for your voice. You sound more like a Mark Twain or a John Steinbeck, except an octave or two higher.

I wouldn't have put you as Avril Lavigne either Fea, she's too unoriginal for you - but as to who you do sound like . . . no idea!

Collective Consciousness? Well if that's what my imagination & Lhuna joking around amounts to then...yeah I guess so.

Avril is the closest singer to you in my mind...but then again I don't know that many female artists so I have a good excuse.

Besides...my imagination is my own, you can't take it from me.

I don't think you can even measure what a voice like that would sound like on the Sexy-Meter to girls.

I'm glad I sound like that.

I blame the avatar, and your online 'essence.' Whether or not it represents reality....Eru knows. And yes, I am fans of both actors, so you can take that as a compliment.

Let me see if I can get a few more tries in here...

If a cat could talk, I would imagine it would sound like Valier. (Hmm...coincidence?)

And if a butterfly could talk it would have the voice of Fea.

I think phantom is the guy that does the dramatic voice overs for all the movie trailers...'On a dark, dreary night in the middle of nowhere...'

SpM is articulate and enuciates well but speaks rather quickly.

Boromir speaks just like Kirk Herbstreit and commentates on just about everything too.

Lalwende speaks quietly and with a mystic and enchanting tone to her voice.

College football fan too, eh? Kirk Herbstreit is closer than Lee Corso...definitely, what an annoying voice. But for me, you might want to think of Chris Fowler more...at least of the game day crew, he may be the closest.

Morm, I really can't pick out a specific person for...I'm thinking he's got a strong deep voice, that's actually so deep it's hard to understand him at times because he also like to mumble a bit...and everyone has to repeatedly say 'What did you say?'

Heh heh... what's funny is that I actually do talk like that quite often. My friend and I started using that voice in high school. We were always coming up with horrible sounding exaggerated names for things. Like this little hill on the path that we always ran- we referred to it as "The Flesh-Eating Mountain of Terror and Destruction!!", and we always said it with that movie-trailer-guy voice.

morm sounds like... Mike Golic.

Boro... Kevin Kugler.

Now that puts a really wierd picture in my mind. Not sure I really want to think about that. Though I can't really picture him arguing with Mike Greenberg.

Back on topic, I've always thought of SpM and Mith as having homely, English voices.

Doesn't Homely mean plug ugly in American though?!!!? My mother (who lived at Princeton for a while) warned me not to use homely before I went to the states for the first time lest I cause grave offence - made me wonder what US reader thoughyt of Rivendell being the last Homely house....

On a good day I sound like a Radio 4 announcer (and I am thinking Charlotte Green rather than Brian Perkins - The Saucepan Man might very well sound like him though ) on a bad day I am liable to start squeaking and sound like the Queen on helium......

No problem. It's too bad you can't listen to Kevin every day like I can. The afternoon show he does here is awesome. As a matter of fact my buddy and I might be going to eat at the place Kevin's doing his show right now.

Heh heh... if I go I'll be sure to tell Kevin that Boro said "hi". I'm sure he'll know who I mean.

Don't know where ever you got that information from.

Homely is exactly as it sounds like and creates a nice, lovely feeling (even in America)....pleasant, welcoming...etc.

So, if I would say 'this is a homely place' I would be saying it's pleasant/calm/tranquil...etc and it reminds me as if it were my home.

Perhaps in Ohio.

When we say "homely" we mean- def. lacking in physical attractiveness; not beautiful; unattractive.

To mean what you are saying, we typically use "homey".

(of course in some circles "homey" is an endearing term for a trusted friend)

I don't know why homely should mean lacking in attractiveness. It sounds as though it should mean home-like, or like home.

Elempi sounds like one of my neighbors (mostly because he looks like him, too...). He has a nice voice, that is not too deep, and he laughs a bunch. If he ever sang, he'd be a tenor.

Piosenniel has a nice, reassuring and somewhat firm voice, somewhat deep, but still definitely feminine.

Tevildo sounds like an 18 year old, his voice still somewhat boyish and merry most of the time. Listen to just about any 18 year old and you'll know what I mean.......

That's all I can think of right now.

My mother, as I said, who was a reliable source of information ... unlike my sister who, one October, when I was about 6 told me the world was going to end in February ....

Homely is positive here but she told me that homey was the way to go..the other sort of homey would have been beyond her ken....

She also told me to refer to hitting practice balls rather than knocking up when talking about warming up for tennis.....

"Knocking up"?? What?!

Are you serious about that? I've never heard that definition before. So what you're saying is, if I was your coach or practice partner and I "warmed you up" before a match, you would say "tp knocked me up"? Or if I asked if you needed to warm up, I would say, "Say, Mith, would you like me to knock you up?"

Ha ha ha ha! *wipes eyes* That's hysterical.

I actually meant "homely" exactly like Boro said, as a compliment. Though I suppose you could interpret it in all sorts of different ways.

It might be an Ohio thing...or maybe I'm just an out-dated old man. But the worst context I've heard it in has been saying something is 'original' or something like 'not spectactular just average.'

I could hardly be described as an old man, nor do I live in Ohio. Though Oro does say I act like a grumpy old man sometimes. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

LOL No if you use it transitively it means what you are thinking here to ... or that you have knocked on their door to alert them to something... with tennis it is only used intransitively so really if a commentator at Wimbledon said that Federer and Henman were knocking up on Centre Court .... that would be quite ok..

Now shall we get back on topic
