Missing Fell Beast?
Has anyone noticed that in the Battle at the Black Gate, only 7 Fell Beasts are seen? Eowyn killed the Witch-King's Fell Beast, but there's one other missing. I'm hoping that Gondorian Longbowmen shot it down.

I wonder if the one Faramir shot in Osgiliath ended up dying. Possibility? Or Sauron kept one back as a personal guard to his tower .

ah ha!
This ties in with my post the other day defending (somewhat) jackson having Frodo show the Ring to the Nazgul and fell beast at Osgiliath. I surmised that the reason Sauron does not find out that a Hobbit has the Ring in Osgiliath is that Faramir shot down the fell beast and it's Rider was therfore riderless and unable to quickly return to Mordor to inform Sauron of the news. This ties in with 7 nazgul at the black gate. |

yeah but then you'd have about 500 characters in the film and this just wouldn't work for the average movie goer, and even die hard book readers might have problems remembering who's who when it comes to secondary characters.

Neurion, please refrain form belittling the coherently explained views of others. Discussions here should be conducted in the spirit of politeness and civility.

no worries. welcome to the downs by the way.
I wonder if anyone does have a character count, major and minor, for the whole (book) trilogy? No doubt it would be less than 500, but I reckon it runs into the hundreds (ie those with speaking parts or actually named as characters in the book) |

Estel, don't forget old mayor Will Witfoot .
There's a handful from Gondor that are missing in ROTK. (Not saying that I'm dissapointed in them not being there). Imrahil Forlong Duinhir Duilhin Derufin Golasgil Hurin Dervorin Beregond Hirluin Earnur (mentioned) Ioreth Ingold Hurgon Others: Halbarad Ghan-buri-ghan Thain Paladin These two I don't remember being in the movies, but I'm not sure: Damrod Anborn Just a couple from The Two Towers: Fimbrethil Quickbeam Fladrif Erkenbrand Eomer (just joking, ha) |

Um, excuse me...
Estel, your above list stated that Balin was not mentioned in FOTR and should have been. However, Gimli mentions him as being his cousin just before the Crebain appear and they do visit his tomb in Moria where Gandalf identifies him as Lord of Moria.
